I’ve posted about Brian Eno’s “77 Million Paintings” a few times before. The work was recently on view at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center, and Wired did an interview with Eno where he discusses the piece. It’s an interesting read, and gives a bit of insight into Eno’s approach to his work.

Interesting interview, and cool to know that he’s supplying music for the “Spore” video game (so is Cliff Martinez, from what I understand).
So is the music in “77 Million Paintings” generative as well? In other words, does the music evolve differently at each viewing — based on the images that are selected by the software?

That’s a good question, and I don’t know the answer.
It seems like in the interview he’s hinting at that though. I do know that when I saw the thing in London back in March that I didn’t recognize any of the music as anything I’d heard from Eno before. Don’t know that that means anything, really, though.
