New Seaworthy CD + Book from 12k

Posted on | March 12, 2009 | No Comments

b1897

“Coming soon on 12k is the new CD by Australia’s Seaworthy. Recorded an an abandoned ammunitions depot outside of Sydney, “1897″ is a stark and haunting work of minimalist guitar and field recording. Along with the CD, 12k will be producing a 64-page book of photographs taken by Seaworthy’s Cameron Webb shot in and around the military installation during the recording of the album. Only 50, numbered, copies of this book will be printed and sold together with the CD.”

New Fennesz Track “Saffron Revolution” at Pitchfork

Posted on | October 3, 2008 | No Comments

Fennesz has a new track available from his upcoming album Black Sea available for streaming and free download at Pitchfork.

In other news, stuff like this is why I don’t write about music, I just point to it:

Beginning with some of Fennesz’ trademark neo-industrial gurgles, it folds in bits of guitar and strings rather beautifully, creating a cluster of sound that trembles, seeming to wait for something. And that something moves in gradually in the form of a massive cloud of distortion, a fine white mist of harmonics mixed with a dark undercurrent of rumbling bass. The tension between these elements is so well balanced, each individual element remaining in the mix even as the sound field becomes impossibly dense, that it’s no surprise that it takes a while to get it just right.

Yow.

Taylor Deupree “Sea Last” Book

Posted on | September 1, 2008 | No Comments

Taylor Deupree is set to release a book containing photographs and a 3″ disc of music. Not sure exactly what the details are, but I always kind of appreciate the creative output of Deupree and the artists on his 12k label. Here’s a little bit more about it:

In each Sea Last book printed, there is one missing image; in the back of the book you will find a sleeve containing the original photograph for that missing page along with the 3″cd. Every printed book is missing a different image, making each copy unique and by default limiting the entire production to 238, which was the number of photographs taken.

Luminarium, Tape

Posted on | June 2, 2008 | 1 Comment

I stumbled across Swedish band Tape, who play quiet, spooky instrumental stuff with a bit of found sound added in as texture. Luminarium is their latest release from Häpna Records. They’ve got another couple records, all worth your time, but I think this latest release is likely their best.
